Privacy policy
Effective date: November 1, 2026 / Last updated: November 2, 2026
Ayumu Ohtaki, operating as AMBLE ("I", "me" or "my"), handles the personal information collected through this website, AMBLE (https://amble.tokyo, the "Site"), in accordance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan (Act No. 57 of 2003, the "APPI") and other applicable laws and guidelines, as described below.
1. Who operates this Site
- Name: Ayumu Ohtaki (trading as AMBLE)
- Location: Itabashi, Tokyo, Japan (the full street address will be provided without delay on request)
- Contact: the contact form on this Site, or by email at info@amble.tokyo
2. What this Site is
This Site is a portfolio that introduces my Shopify design and development work and how I think about it. At present nothing is sold on this Site and no payment details (such as card numbers) are collected. If I start selling products or services or offering accounts on this Site in the future, I will update this policy and let you know.
3. Information I collect
(1) Information you enter in the contact form
When you use the contact form, I ask for the following (some fields are optional):
- Your name
- Email address
- Company, trade or brand name
- URL of your current website or store
- Budget and preferred timing
- What you would like to discuss
- How you found this Site
Providing this information is voluntary. However, without your name, email address and the details of your enquiry I may not be able to reply or make a proposal.
(2) Information collected automatically
When you browse the Site, information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the referring page and the time of your visit may be recorded automatically through cookies and similar technologies. In principle this information does not identify you personally; where it can be combined with other information to identify you, I treat it as personal information.
4. How I use your information
I use the personal information I collect only for the following purposes:
- Replying to your enquiry and discussing your project
- Preparing estimates and proposals, and contacting you about them
- Carrying out the design, development, maintenance or other work you commission, and communicating with you about it
- Invoicing and payment procedures
- Understanding how the Site is used, and improving its content and usability
- Preventing unauthorised access, spam and other conduct that interferes with the safe operation of the Site
- Complying with legal obligations
If I need to use your information for any other purpose, I will ask for your consent first. Sending an enquiry does not mean you will receive repeated marketing contact from me.
5. Sharing with third parties
I do not share personal information with third parties without your consent, except in the following cases:
- Where required by law
- Where necessary to protect a person's life, body or property and it is difficult to obtain your consent
- Where cooperation with a national or local government body carrying out its legal duties is required
6. External services and outsourcing
I use the following external services to run this Site. These providers may process personal information on my behalf to the extent needed to provide their services, and I supervise them appropriately.
- Shopify (Shopify Inc., Canada): hosts this Site and receives and stores messages sent through the contact form. Submitted information is stored on Shopify's servers (in Canada, the United States and elsewhere). See Shopify's privacy policy.
- Web fonts (Google Fonts): used to display this Site. When fonts are loaded, your IP address and similar information is sent to the provider.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC, United States): used to understand how the Site is used (pages viewed, time on page, referring page, approximate region, device type and similar) so I can improve it. It uses cookies to collect this data, but no information that identifies you, such as your name or email address, is sent. See how Google uses this data; to stop collection, you can use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- CDN (content delivery network): delivers some of the Site's scripts. When they are loaded, your IP address and similar information is sent to the provider.
Transfers outside Japan
As described above, contact form submissions are stored on servers operated by Shopify Inc. in Canada. Canada has a personal information protection regime (the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, PIPEDA). Information published by Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission about overseas regimes is available on the Commission's website. Shopify Inc. maintains safeguards (access controls, encryption and contractual protections) that meet the standard required under the APPI. By submitting the contact form you consent to this handling.
7. Cookies and similar technologies
This Site may use cookies and browser local storage to make browsing more comfortable, for example to remember your display mode or language. Shopify's built-in tools may also record information about how the Site is used. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some features of the Site may then not work correctly. For cookies used for analytics (Google Analytics), see section 6.
8. Security
To prevent leakage, loss or damage of the personal information I handle, I take measures including the following:
- Access to devices and accounts that handle personal information is limited to me and protected by passwords and two-step verification.
- Communication with this Site is encrypted with SSL/TLS.
- Files and emails containing personal information are kept only as long as needed and deleted promptly when no longer required.
- External services are used only after checking the provider's security arrangements.
9. Retention
I keep contact form submissions for as long as needed to reply and make a proposal, and for a reasonable period afterwards to handle follow-up enquiries (as a rule two years from the enquiry), and then delete them. If an enquiry leads to a commission, records of the contract and transactions are kept for the periods required by law.
10. Your rights
If you (or your authorised representative) ask me to notify you of the purpose of use, disclose, correct, add to or delete your personal information, or to stop using, erase or stop sharing it, I will respond without delay in accordance with the APPI after confirming your identity.
- Please send requests to the contact details in section 1.
- To confirm your identity, I may ask you to write from the email address you used when you contacted me.
- No fee is charged.
- If the law prevents me from granting a request, I will tell you and explain why.
11. Changes to this policy
I may revise this policy in response to changes in the law or in this Site. The revised policy applies from the time it is posted on this page. Significant changes will be announced clearly on the Site.
